From humble beginnings seven years ago in rugby, with the commitment of a small, dedicated team, to significant acquisitions over the last 18 months, the future looks bright for sports apparel business Zoo Sport with international private equity business Transworld Group (‘Transworld’) committing to significant investment and shareholding in the rapidly expanding ‘Zoo Sport’ business.

It’s an incredible achievement for the team at Zoo Sport who under the guidance of Chief Executive Matt Goebel, have not only captured significant market share, but also re-installed consumer faith and trust in the team wear sector through a committed focus to key business areas including customer service, garment quality and the introduction of clear timelines, with ‘on time or free’ delivery guarantees.

The Zoo Sport business has in ‘one leap’ transitioned to a new Transworld-created global entity as part of a private equity arrangement, resulting in the establishment of the “Zoo Sport” group and formation of ‘Zoo Sport Australia Pty Ltd’, exclusively licensed to service the Australian market.

“Transworld’s belief in Zoo Sport, coupled with an excellent product and brand value proposition resulted in our commitment to provide the support and investment required to realise domestic and international growth of the business, making “Zoo Sport” a truly global brand”

“Importantly during negotiations, we had all stakeholders pulling in the same direction and working towards the same shared objectives. Together, a result was achieved which we believe will revolutionise the team wear industry” Transworld Group Chairman, Steve Cummins

Zoo Sport & Transworld

The Queensland Rugby Union and St.George Queensland Reds Super Rugby team were the first elite sporting franchise to join forces with Zoo Sport, signing an official apparel partnership which will see the brand produce on and off field apparel for Queensland’s representative teams and the Reds Super Rugby franchise, inclusive of their members and supporter merchandise.

Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) Chief Operating Officer David Hanham applauded the financial investment and commitment shown by Transworld Group through their acquisition of a significant shareholding in Zoo Sport.

“The QRU congratulates Transworld Group and our friends at Zoo Sport on the announcement of a partnership which we believe will send a clear and focussed message across the sports and team-wear landscape,” Mr Hanham said.

“We have been extremely impressed with Zoo Sport as a proactive, forward thinking organisation with a number of exciting projects to be announced in the near future. With the additional support of Transworld Group, we have every confidence the Reds brand and our other apparel products will remain at the forefront of Zoo Sports research and development programs, while being promoted across existing and new rugby markets,” Mr Hanham added.

With exceptional product, dedicated production facilities and service levels which set the brand apart, Zoo Sport has been the market bolter under the guidance of Goebel and his management team who have made huge in-roads across the sport, education, event and corporate sectors.

“Initially assembling a key group of industry experts, we collectively spent several months analysing the team wear market, prior to developing a strategy for Zoo Sport which we believed would correct a number of industry irregularities and provide assurance to clubs, schools and sporting organisations who had been let down time and time again through poor delivery, support and service by their respective suppliers”

“Pleasingly our strategy not only captured the attention of the team wear market with thousands of players now running out each weekend in Zoo Sport branded apparel, but also that of Transworld Group whose support and investment will enable Zoo Sport to continue setting new industry benchmarks and standards” Goebel said.

Zoo Sport Executives, Matt Goebel and Les Manson will continue leading the business on a day to day basis, while Goebel, who has formed a dynamic relationship with Transworld Chief Executive Jamille Cummins, will work together on the next phase of the Group’s development through an enhanced ‘Zoo Sport’ Global Business Strategy.

Transworld Executives feel privileged to be a part of this fantastic opportunity, and look forward to embracing the Zoo Sport culture and opportunities.
